Ricky Martin's Twin Babies

Famous Latino singre Ricky Martin has recently revealed photos of his twin boys to the world through People magazine. The twin boys were born through a surrogate mother but identity of the mother and details of pregnancy was unknown. The boys were born early August and now are four months old. They are named Matteo and Valentino. When asked about the personalities of the twins, this was what Ricky Martin has to say:

"Valentino loves to sleep. I call him 'Mr. Peace and Love' because he's so chill and serene. Matteo is more alert and active. He was up at 3 a.m. the other night and just hanging! "

These babies are already celebrities even before they where born courtesy of their famous celebrity parents of course! Check out who are these beautiful twins and who are their lucky celebrity parents!

The Brangelina Twins. Fraternal twins Knox Léon and Vivienne Marcheline Jolie-Pitt was born to gorgeous-famous actors Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt. The twins were born by c-section on Saturday, July 12th in Nice, France.

Another famous couple who had twins this year were Jennifer Lopez and Marc Anthony. This singer couple named their fraternal baby twins Max and Emme. The babies were born early Friday of Ferbuary 22 2008, at Long Island, New York, hospital.

Patick Dempsey and wife Jillian also welcomed identical baby boy twins just last year. The Grey's Anatomy Star Patrick Dempsey and wife named their twin boys, Sullivan Patrick and Darby Galen. The boys were born on Thursday, Feb. 01, 2007.

The Desperate Housewives star Marcia Cross is another proud momma of twin girls Savannah and Eden. Marcia and hubby Tom Mahoney, welcomed their new daughters on February 20, 2007 in Los Angeles,CA.

Famous multi-awarded actress Julia Roberts is among those celebrity moms who are proud to have given birth to fraternal baby twins. Julia gave birth to her babies way back four years ago. The twins were born on November 28, 2004. Julia and husband Daniel Moder named their fraternal twins, Hazel Patricia and Phinnaeus "Finn" Walter.

Hibernation

So! It has been six months since I last posted here. And why is that so? Well, lots of things happened. Changes in my life and honestly I kind of lost my interest in posting here. But now I'll start posting things here again. I'll be posting a few pics of famous celebritis with their twins babies. So watch out for it!

note: the sleeping baby girl above is very first niece. :D Her name is Chloe and she's the daughter of my younger cousin JC.

Fraternal twins

Fraternal twins (commonly known as "non-identical twins") usually occur when two fertilized eggs are implanted in the uterine wall at the same time. The two eggs form two zygotes, and these twins are therefore also known as dizygotic as well as "biovular" twins. When two eggs are independently fertilized by two different sperm cells, fraternal twins result.

Dizygotic twins, like any other siblings, have an extremely small chance of having the exact same chromosome profile. Like any other siblings, fraternal twins may look very similar, particularly given that they are the same age. However, fraternal twins may also look very different from each other. They may be different sexes or the same sex. The same holds true for brothers and sisters from the same parents, meaning that fraternal twins are simply brothers and/or sisters who happen to have the same age.

Studies show that there is a genetic basis for fraternal twinning. However, it is only the female partner that has any influence on the chances of having fraternal twins as the male cannot make her release more than one ovum. Fraternals are also more common for older mothers, with twinning rates doubling in mothers over the age of 35.

Identical twins

Identical twins occur when a single egg is fertilized to form one zygote (monozygotic) which then divides into two separate embryos. Their traits and physical appearances are not exactly the same; although they have identical DNA, environmental conditions both inside the womb and throughout their lives influence the switching on and off of various genes. Division of the zygote into two embryos is not considered to be a hereditary trait, but rather an anomaly that occurs in birthing at a rate of about three in every 1000 deliveries worldwide,[8] regardless of ethnic background. The two embryos develop into fetuses sharing the same womb. When one egg is fertilized by one sperm cell, and then divides and separates, two identical cells will result. If the zygote splits very early (in the first two days after fertilization) they may develop separate placentas (chorion) and separate sacs (amnion). These are called dichorionic, diamniotic (or "di/di") twins, which occurs 20-30 percent of the time. Most of the time in identical twins the zygote will split after two days, resulting in a shared placenta, but two separate sacs. These are called monochorionic, diamniotic ("mono/di").

In about one percent of identical twins the splitting occurs late enough to result in both a shared placenta and a shared sac called; monochorionic, monoamniotic ("mono/mono") twins. Finally, the zygote may split extremely late, resulting in conjoined twins. Mortality is highest for conjoined twins due to the many complications resulting from shared organs. Mono/mono twins have an overall in-utero mortality of about 60 percent, principally due to cord entanglement prior to 32 weeks gestation. Many times, monoamniotic twins are delivered at 32 weeks electively for the safety of the babies. In higher order multiples, there can sometimes be a combination of fraternal/identical twins.

Semi-identical

Monozygotic twins can develop differently, due to different genes being activated.[19]. More unusual are "Semi-identical twins". These "half-identical twins" are hypothesized to occur when an unfertilized egg cleaves into two identical attached ova and which are viable for fertilization. Both cloned ova are then fertilized by different sperm and the coalesced eggs undergo further cell duplications developing as a chimeric blastomere. If this blastomere then undergoes a twinning event, two embryos will be formed, each of which have different paternal genes and identical maternal genes.

This results in a set of twins with identical genes from the mother's side, but different genes from the father's side. Cells in each fetus carry genes from either sperm, resulting in chimeras. This form had been speculated until only recently being recorded in western medicine

Since this blog is all about twins, i'll be posting things and information that involves matters concerning twins. And first thing we should know about it is what does the term twin means. So, I search for it and found an article about it at wikipedia.org. Just read below and find out.

Defining Twins:

Twins are two offspring resulting from the same pregnancy, either of the same or opposite sex. Human twins are two individuals who have shared the uterus during a single pregnancy and are usually, but not necessarily, born in close succession. Due to the limited size of the mother's womb, multiple pregnancies are much less likely to carry to full term than singleton births, with twin pregnancies lasting only 37 weeks on average, 3 weeks less than full term. Since premature births can have health consequences for the babies, twin births are often handled with special precautions.

Types of Twins:

1. Identical/ monozygotic
2. Fraternal/dizygotic -(commonly known as "non-identical twins")
3. Semi-identical

Five common variations of twinning.
(1) male-female fraternal twins -the most common result, at about 40 percent of all twins born;
(2) female fraternal twins -(sometimes called sororal twins);
(3) male fraternal twins
(4) female identical twins
(5) male identical -least common (I don't quite agree because so far all twins I know of are males)

Twin Fascination

I don't really know what makes me so fascinated with twins especially with the baby ones. Twins are just so adorable to look at like. You look at them and you see two people that look so much alike and yet differ in so many ways. They're just so cute! Whenever I see twins it really makes me wish to have twin babies of my own someday. But I know there is really a rare possibility for that to happen. But if it will happen, then that would be awesome! By the way, I think my zodiac has some connection why I'm so into twins. I'm a Gemini so I guess that's the reason why. Maybe! hehe
And did I mention that I have a crush that also has a twin brother?! Yeah, that's right. Got a crush who's a pair of twin. Moreover, I think there are 3 - 4 sets of twins on our division at school. With all those twins around, how can a girl be not fascinated with Twins! :D
